Davood Zandian

Davood Zandian the Norwegian- Iranian artist is born in 1954. He has been an artist for about as long as he can remember. As a 10-year-old, he got a job in the studio of a painter in his hometown, Tehran, the capital of Iran. As a 15-year-old, he was allowed to begin his eight-year art education. Davood Zandian came to Norway in 1986 and has lived in several places in this country. First, in Finnsnes in north after in Haugesund, Kristiansand and Drammen before coming to Sarpsborg 17 years ago. Gradually he began to make oneself noticed.

He was offered several exhibitions, was accepted at the western country exhibition in 2003, and on autumn exhibition in 2013 and 2017 also, Soli Brug gallery in 2014. When Øiving Storm Bjerke in The class struggle (Klassekampen) reviewed the Autumn Exhibition that year, he wrote i.a. The big surprise is the debutant Davood Zandian. His one painting is virtuoso and juicy painted in a muted colour while the other stands out with its bolded colours. The paintings show that Zandian has found his own form with a rarely well-developed pictorial nerve and culture.

Zandian ﬁnds it difﬁcult to put art into words, he leaves that to the viewer. Much of the inspiration and content is taken from Iran's thousand of years old culture. He mixes the nostalgic examples in love with the old cameras and crank gramophones, which are sweated so modernly inserted into the end older environments. In the works of Davood Zandian we can almost smell the worn books, the polished mahogany furniture or the well-used clothes. The people depicted also seem to be between awake and asleep. We become involuntarily curious about what this is really about. Zandian carefully uses the term magical realism about his works.
